Is worth $12 a year?

The title says it all.  I've registered on for the free 90 day trial.  I was amazed that was still available.

The .name tld is supposed to be used to provide a clear, unique URL for one's identity.  This can then be used as an OpenID... if you've been reading my previous posts then I'm sure you get the picture.

I'm wondering whether or not it's worth paying for this URL.  I can't really see why it's any better than using, say, which I already own, but on the other hand I can't help thinking that I might look back in 5 years time and curse myself for not grabbing it while I had the chance.  What do you think?

  1. I've yet to be convinced that the .name tld is ever going to be a success - I think a lot of the newer tlds are going to struggle to ever gain traction.

But on the other hand, six quid isn't too much to pay for a gamble!

  2. Pretty much my sentiments SalVal :) It's only $12 after all.

  3. And the good thing, Robert, is that, if the .name tld does not work out, I can blame you for costing me £12 a year :-)

    I've taken

  4. Cheers John - it's a heavy responsibility but I think I can handle it ;)
